10 Must-Know Bars for Students in Paris

Looking for a cool bar in Paris that won’t break the bank? I’ve selected my 10 favourites to save you guys the hassle of finding them yourself! It took me the best part of a year to find all of these places so enjoy them as soon as you can! The first 5 are cool bars and the second 5 are dirt cheap bars!

5 bars to feel cool at:

La Recyclerie

On the edge of Paris’s 18th arrondissement is La Recyclerie – an edgy co-op bar which doubles as a a creative space during the day and good value cocktail bar at night! The building is an old railway station above the Petite Ceinture abandoned railway line giving it a really unique feel. It serves up a good mix of original cocktails priced at around 6€ or 7€ each. A great place to chill out in the early evening, especially in the cool outdoor seating area down by the railway tracks! Definitely worth the trip if you live on the other side of Paris.

Le Comptoir General

With a similar vibe to La Recyclerie, the Comptoir is a bar / club that attracts Paris’s young creatives and is ideally situated on the banks of the Canal Saint Martin – a favourite spot for evening picnics and wine drinking (…..). Each room in the Comptoir has a different feel, one like a greenhouse with plants growing around you, and one with an enormous Pirate Ship overlooking the bar. The whole place is decorated with bits and bobs that make it feel like an old explorer’s house. Good place for a casual drink or for a boogie. More expensive than La Recyclerie but still reasonable. If you’re struggling for cash have a few drinks along the canal beforehand!

Le Perchoir

The 3 Perchoir rooftop bars are the places to go if you want delicious cocktails, incredible views and to feel a little bit classier than normal! Cocktails tend to be around the 12€ mark and beers are 8€ so I wouldn’t recommend spending a whole night at a Perchoir bar but the views make them worth a visit at least once! There are three Perchoirs in Paris; 1 on top of the Gare de l’Est station, one in the Marais area (views of Eiffel Tower & Hotel de Ville) and one at Ménilmontant (views of Sacré Coeur). They are all pop-up bars that open across the summer months.

Marais – 33 Rue de la Verrerie, 75004 Paris

Ménilmontant – 14 Rue Crespin du Gast 75011 Paris

5 Rue Sedaine, 75011 Paris

This bar is a classic American prohibition era bar. Walking in to a tiny italian restaurant you’ll be questioning if you’re in the right place but have faith and walk straight to the doors at the back, through the storage area and you’ll find yourself in a cool, vibrant speak-easy! Amazing cocktails and great Whiskey from 6€ to 14€ and pints from 4€!

5, rue Sedaine, 75011 Paris

Café l’Atelier

This bar is slightly less cool than the 4 above but isn’t quite cheap enough to be added to the ones below but I still felt it deserved a mention! What sets this place apart is that it’s open all night, only closing at 6am which means you can always head there for one last beer before you call it a night. The prices aren’t that reasonable but couldn’t be called expensive either, and there is a huge terraced seating area with heaters – what more could you want?!

5 ridiculously cheap bars:

Aux Folies

This bar at Belleville has a large outside terrace and is one of the cheapest I’ve found!

8 Rue de Belleville, 75020 Paris

La Cordonerie

Similarly, La Cordonnerie is a great bar for a cheap pint (4€ outside of happy hours!) and has a cool underground cellar area downstairs.

142 Rue St Denis, 75002 Paris

Le Sully

This bar at Strasbourg Saint-Denis on line 4 is another one for a bargain beer with beers as cheap as 3€!

Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis, 75010 Paris

Not far from Le Sully is a similar bar called l’Attirail which has generous bar space inside with tables if it’s too cold to sit outside. And cheap beer – 3.30€ a pint! Not to mention the free potato wedges!

8 Boulevard Saint-Martin, 75010 Paris

Le Nouvel Institut

This bar is one of the most spacious of all of my cheap bar selections. With lots of tables inside, Le Nouvel Institut serves good food at decent prices and pints of beer for 3€ all night! Perfect for larger groups. They even serve pints of La Chouffe 8% Belgian Beer for just 5€.

1 Boulevard Saint-Germain, 75005 Paris
